Intressant text i New York Times -- hur påverkar det oss att se nakna människor? Blir de objektifierade, eller snarare, förlorar de något av sin mänsklighet? Bildar vi oss uppfattningen att de är lite dummare än påklädda människor? Det finns en kulturell föreställning om kroppen och det kroppsliga som mer djuriskt och lägre stående än hjärnan, och nakenhet skulle påminna oss om att människan vi tittar på är kropp. Ett par studier som artikelförfattaren varit med och gjort låter ana att det hela är mer komplicerat än så. Delar av nakenhetens effekt på oss är moraliskt positiv. Andra delar är det inte. Men att den mänskliga kroppen påverkar våra moraliska känslor är tydligt:

These findings underscore the corporeal nature of many of our moral feelings. The experience of other people’s bodies can elicit empathy and compassion; it can also trigger disgust, fear and hatred. Our moral thoughts and actions are influenced, often unconsciously, by others’ smell, their race, their sex, their age, how much skin they are showing and much else.

If we want to be good people, to do right by others, it’s important to know about these influences. Sometimes we will embrace them, but often we are going to want to combat them.
